TO B OR NOT TO CBD?

CBD has become the cool kid on the block, and it looks like she’s here to stay. So what is all the fuss about, what is CBD and does it really work?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol which is a naturally occurring chemical compound that is extracted from the plant Cannabis Sativa. CBD is a very different animal to THC one of the other chemicals in that same plant. We humans have cannabinoid receptors in our body and brain. These receptors are what THC and CBD interact with so effortlessly however, CBD and THC activate different areas and serve different purposes.

THC binds to receptors in your brain which affects memory, coordination and concentration and has the psychoactive effect that induces the “high” associated with recreational cannabis. CBD however affects receptors in your body which are responsible for regulating pain, body temperature, and inflammation.

There’s much ongoing research but studies have shown that CBD might help improve the overall function of the endocannabinoid system (our central nervous system) helping to down regulate stress signals plus it might also be helpful in a variety of ailments, ranging from acne to anxiety to psoriasis to pain and more.

Clearly plenty of people believe in the power of the plant and according to London-based analysis firm Prohibition Partners the European cannabis market will be worth over £100 billion by 2028 with other possibly more fanciful reports putting the figure between $500 bn and £1 trillion. As hallucinatory as that sounds, there’s no denying that legal weed, particularly for medicinal purposes, is currently one of the world’s hottest prospects.

We are delighted to be the exclusive UK stockists of CBD clean beauty products from Life Elements based in California. With years of knowledge under their belts, Martha and Curt Van Inwegen founders of Life Elements have dedicated themselves to developing skin care collections made from the most natural ingredients they can find. The result is a product line of individually crafted, dependable body and skincare solutions you can trust, all hand produced in California. Their formulas are made of ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients, such as honey, tepezcohuite, and the highest quality USA organically grown, broad spectrum hemp derived CBD oil (with zero THC). They believe in making a difference as real as their products, which is why they put everything to the test (with humans, not animals) before releasing anything to their customers.

“You are what you feel. We make products that your skin will dance with and your body will thrive on. Our products will never contain harmful ingredients for you or the earth” they say.

Life Elements is the life’s work of California based couple Martha and Curt Van Inwegen who started the company with a few simple ingredients; conviction, honesty, available resources and a disregard for perfection. They are certain that their products are better, safer, and less harmful than any other body and skincare company. Martha grew up in Mexico and some of her earliest and strongest memories are hanging onto her Grandmother’s apron, following her everywhere, as she began to learn how to make herbal salves and tinctures. Martha would go into the hills to collect flowers with her Grandfather and into the garden to collect herbs with her Grandmother. Together, they’d make tinctures and medicine in the kitchen. Using Life Elements means using ancient remedies from a lineage of incredible women. From the get-go, Martha was fascinated by the synergy of ingredients and she has become a product alchemist out of sheer practice and curiosity, and is fueled by the magic of helping others. Life Elements uses the highest quality organically USA grown, broad spectrum, hemp derived CBD oil and as many natural ingredients in their products as is humanly possible. The products are never tested on animals. Traceability of every single ingredient in their supply chain is of the utmost importance which continues their positive differentiation in a market which is crowded with inferior products. Most of their packaging is made from glass or recyclable material and they are striving to find solutions for the remaining small percentage that currently isn’t.
